Montegrappa was founded in 1912 as "Manifattura pennini d'oro e penne stilografiche" ("Manufacturer of gold nibs and fountain pens") in Bassano del Grappa, Italy. The writing instruments that come from the factory are of top quality and the designs are unique. The writing instruments of Montegrappa are used by popes, presidents and royalties. Among these notables are His Holiness John Paul II, His Majesty King Juan Carlos of Spain, His Majesty King Hussein of Jordan, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand, His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei and many others.

In 1981 the company came into the hands of the Aquilla family and since their arrival the strategic positioning of the company has changed radically and they have put the company firmly on the map. In 2000, Richemont - a Swiss group that also acquired the luxury brands Cartier and Montblanc - acquired the company. However, in 2009 Montegrappa was taken back by De Aquila. And since then, the company is run by the sharp vision, taste, knowledge and experience of the family.
