Caran d'Ache is a Swiss manufacturer of high-quality writing instruments (such as pencils and pens), art supplies and accessories. In 1915 Arnold Schweitzer bought the pencil factory "Ecridor" in the heart of Geneva. Nine years later in 1924, Caran d'Ache was officially founded. Arnold Schweitzer called his company Caran d'Ache, the pseudonym of a French satirical political draftsman from Russia at the time. Karandasi means in Russian Pencil. All writing instruments are manufactured in Switzerland.
